When AI in the consultation room treats everything but the patient, this was the thought-provoking theme presented by Matteo Caliandro and Stefan Stefaniak at the SIDIIEF 2025 Student Day, hosted by the Institut et Haute École de Santé La Source in Lausanne.
Stefan opened the session by laying the groundwork: an overview of the Swiss healthcare system, SwissDRG financing, medical coding, and the role of AI through Cody, our automated medical coding solution developed at Swisscoding Technologies.
Matteo then introduced a deliberately provocative question: How could AI replace the nursing profession? — a pedagogical approach to demystify AI, challenge preconceptions, and highlight that these technologies are here to support, not replace, healthcare professionals.
Many thanks to the Institut et Haute École de Santé La Source and SIDIIEF for the warm welcome, and to the students for their curiosity and thoughtful exchanges.
